Negotiating skills are paramount in real estate transactions to effectively represent a client. Realizing this, Derek wanted to take this concept of negotiation further and he became a certified mediator, with training and certification through the Congress of Neutrals. He routinely serves as a volunteer mediator in the Contra Costa Superior Court in a variety of case types ranging from unlawful detainer, civil harassment restraining orders and small claims matters. All in an effort to hone his skills as a mediator and bring parties together. This is in addition to private real estate mediations held in his Lafayette office. This additional training and ongoing development in mediation skills exponentially assists him when it comes to negotiating real estate transactions for clients.
